If you’re looking to add height, fragrance, or a touch of romance to your garden this spring, now’s the perfect time. These climbing plants and statement shrubs are coming into bloom and ready to transform your outdoor space.

Wisteria
With its dramatic, cascading flowers in shades of lilac and lavender, wisteria is a show-stopper. Ideal for growing over arches, pergolas, or house walls, it adds instant elegance and a heavenly fragrance. Train it well and prune twice a year for the best display.

Clematis montana
This fast-growing climber is perfect for covering fences, sheds, or trellises in record time. With clouds of small, pink flowers and a light vanilla scent, it’s a springtime favourite. Give it sun or part shade and let it climb free.

Rhododendrons
Rhododendrons are classic spring shrubs, known for their large, lush flower clusters and glossy evergreen foliage. They love acidic soil and dappled shade – perfect for woodland-style borders or underplanting trees.

Lilac (Syringa)
Few plants rival the heady perfume of lilacs in bloom. These large shrubs or small trees fill the garden with sweet fragrance and attract pollinators too. Perfect as a feature plant in a sunny spot.
🌱 Planting Tip:
Most of these shrubs and climbers do best when planted in spring or autumn. Be sure to dig in plenty of compost and mulch around the base to retain moisture. For rhododendrons, use ericaceous compost if your soil is not naturally acidic.
